Vintique Motors is thrilled to present this 1963 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Coupe!

In 1961 at the Geneva Auto Show, Jaguar unveiled what many would consider the most beautiful automobile ever designed and constructed. Offered in both roadster and coupe forms, the E-Type, or XKE as some prefer, was produced in Series 1 form from 1961 to late 1964 with the 3.8-liter Inline-6 engine, Series 1.5 form with the 4.2-liter Inline-6 engine from late 1964 to late 1968, and then in Series 2 form from late 1968 to early 1971 when the Series 3 debuted with the 5.3-liter V12 engine. The early Series 1 are considered the most desirable iterations with their elegant and timeless curvaceous styling, flat-floors, welded-louvers, and covered headlights. Afterall, even Enzo Ferrari himself exclaimed it to be the most beautiful car in the world.

Per the Jaguar Hertiage Trust Certificate, this 1963 E-Type coupe was completed on March 6th, 1962, finished in opalescent gunmetal over a red interior and sold to its first owner on May 3rd, 1962, by Jaguar Cars of New York. Unfortunately, not much is known of its history in the 38 years between its original sale in 1962 and when a previous owner restored the car in the early-2000s. The recommissioning included a color change to British racing green over a green interior along with installing a Series 1.5 4.2-liter engine. In May 2021 it was acquired by a dealer in Miami, FL who proceeded to service the car before selling it a collector from Northville, MI a short time later. This owner enjoyed the car sparingly for the next 2 years until deciding it was time for another recommissioning which included $55,000 in service and updates conducted by the skilled craftsmen at Nostalgic Motoring in Auburn Hills, MI.

This E-Type is being offered as high-end driver with the later 4.2-liter engine that was gone through to ensure reliable running condition complete with new triple SU carburetors, a new full stainless-steel exhaust, an aluminum Howe radiator, and completely rebuilding the fuel system. The entire rear end was removed from the car and completely rebuilt along with servicing the brake system. The entire interior was also exhumed in order to correct and replace old and date wiring as well as to service the HVAC system including a new heater core, blower motor, and install a new audio system by designed to appear factory stock.

If you have a 950+ point E-Type in your collection that you can’t enjoy fearful of something happening or if you’ve always admired the E-Type but prefer one that isn’t top dollar that you can actually drive, perhaps this is the example for you. An immense amount of restorative work was performed, too much to itemize in this description, but all of which is documented with paperwork/receipts and several photos of the process in an effort to offer a E-Type Series 1 coupe with a unique driving experience featuring the larger 4.2-litre engine and a host of updates aimed at improved drivability, performance, and enjoyment.
