Vintique Motors is thrilled to present this 2,285-mile 1991 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 1LE 5-Speed Coupe!

Per the original paperwork documentation, this 1991 Camaro Z28 1LE was order on April 23rd, 1990, built in June 1990 at the Van Nuys, CA assembly, and sold new at Calabro Chevrolet in Grand Island, NY on July 17th, 1990, being delivered with 5 miles. It would spend the next 28 years with the original owner in Grand Island, NY until his passing in April 2018. It was acquired by its second owner from Richmond Hill, GA on July 28th, 2018, with a reported 2,197 miles. It would remain with the second owner for 4 years until it was acquired by its third owner from Athens, GA on May 18th, 2022, with a reported 2,263 miles. It would remain with the third owner for 7 months until it was acquired by a specialty dealer from Asheville, NC on December 7th, 2022, with a reported 2,278 miles. We acquired it on January 15th, 2022, with 2,282 miles and today it presents with 2,285 miles.

It is finished in its factory original color combination of Dark Red Metallic over a Black Custom Cloth interior with bucket seats. It is equipped with the 5.0L TPI V8 rated at 230 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Additional optional equipment includes the $675 performance axle 3.42 ratio, $400 for P245/50ZR-16 tires, $327 for the black custom cloth interior with bucket seats, $160 for the electronic AM/FM stereo radio with cassette and extended range sound system, $160 for an electric rear window defogger, and $65 for state of NY warranty enhancements for a total delivered MSRP of $16,861.

The 1LE performance package came about in 1988 as a secret mix of options intended for the buyer to go racing with it in either IMSA or SCCA events. It didn’t appear in any sales literature or advertising and didn’t have option box on any order forms. When ordering a 1LE, you had to select the right combination of options which started with selecting a Z28 equipped with a V8 engine followed by option code G92 which was the performance rear axle, then option code G80 which was for positraction, and finally select the option box for air conditioning delete.

Additionally, the 1LE performance package also omitted the fog lights and power windows and included modifications that bumped power to 240 horsepower, incorporated the Caprice’s larger brake rotors with the two-piston calipers from the Corvette, a new proportioning valve, a new baffled gas tank, a close-ratio transmission with a shorter fifth gear, a recalibrated suspension, and the Corvette’s aluminum driveshaft. Between 1988-1992 just 1,360 Camaro Z28’s were produced with the 1LE option with 478 produced for the 1991 model year.

Included are the original books, manuals, keys, and window sticker, as well as a complete dossier binder of paperwork and documentation from day one. Accounted for is a copy of the original MSO from GM, the original sales order from Calabro Chevrolet along with the odometer statement showing it was delivered new with 5 miles, copies of the original NY title application and purchase affidavit, handwritten pre-delivery report with a complete breakdown of the option codes, and service records.

We recently gave it a full inspection and servicing which included installing a new headliner as it was sagging, recovering the sun visors as the material had aged to the point of needing replacement, and installing factory correct rubber sway bar bushings in place of the deteriorated incorrect polyurethan bushings a previous owner installed. A previous owner also installed an aftermarket panhard bar, which is the only modification done to the car, as well as coated some of the underbody and suspension components with primer as a preservation measure.

Do not miss this opportunity to acquire this ultra-rare and desirable ’91 Camaro Z28 1LE 5-speed in investment grade condition with just 2,285 original miles with a full dossier of documentation from new. Just 478 of these were produced for 1991 in which it has been treated as a cherished collectible by its 3 past owners including spending 28 years with the original owner.
