The early 2000s were an interesting time for manufacturers of automotive machines. The auto industry starting to turn to retro styling for automobiles and the motorcycle industry starting to turn to muscle cruisers. Harley-Davidson had the V-Rod, Honda had the VTX, and Yamaha, not to be outdone, had the Road Star Warrior.
Yamaha unveiled the Road Star Warrior in 2002 as a muscle cruiser that combined classic design elements with modern technology resulting in a mean machine. For the 2005 model year, Yamaha released an extra cost optional blackout package and dubbed it the Road Star Midnight Warrior. It featured the same standard features as the base model with nearly everything given the menacing blackout aesthetics.
The Midnight Warrior is powered by a fuel injected 1,670cc 4-stroke V-twin air-cooled engine rated at 84 horsepower at 4,400 rpm and 99 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,750 rpm mated to a 5-speed manual transmission with a wet multi-disc clutch and a belt drive. The bike features an aluminum frame with 41mm Kayaba inverted telescoping front fork suspension borrowed from the R1 super bike and an adjustable link monocross rear suspension. Braking is handled by a dual 298mm front discs and a single 282mm rear disc. It rides on 3-spoke cast aluminum wheels sized 18″ up front with a 120mm tire and a 17″ out back with a 200mm tire. Weighing in at just 606lbs, this cruiser has 7.2 horsepower per 1 pound of weight enabling it to blast through the 1/4 mile in 12.7 seconds at 103mph.
This 2005 Road Star Midnight Warrior was purchased new by its singular owner in New Jersey and retained in their extensive private collection of vehicles until our recent acquisition. This bike has always been maintained as a cherish collector item with the only modification being a BUB Enterprises chrome exhaust to really bring out that big bore V-twin sound. This example is as new as it gets with just 38 original miles and as an important motorcycle in the history of Yamaha as well as from this era of bikes, it is ready to join your collection.
